Radio
Added in v1.0.1
Nothing beats the silence of a mine, except maybe NRJ in a minecart going full speed. The mod plugs real live radio stations into Minecraft, and the game music stops to make room for them.
Get on, turn it on
There's nothing to set up. As soon as you sit on a vehicle (minecart, boat, horse, saddled pig, anything you "mount"), the radio starts on the last station you picked. A message above the hotbar confirms it, with the reminder [R] to change.
When you get off, it stops and the game music comes back. One exception: if you're in range of a radio noteblock (see below), it keeps playing.
The menu
The R key opens the menu, but only if you're on a vehicle or near a radio noteblock. On foot in the middle of a field, it does nothing, on purpose: the radio is a travel companion, not a permanent playlist.
In the menu, you pick your station from the list (mouse wheel or up/down arrows), stop it or start it again. You can change the key in the controls, under the "Radio Mod" category.
Built-in stations
Five French stations are already there: NRJ, Skyrock, Chérie FM, Nostalgie and Le Mouv, each with its logo.
Adding your own station
Have a favorite web radio? Click + Add and fill in:
| Field | What to put |
|---|---|
| Name | What shows in the list. Required. |
| Stream URL | The address of the MP3 stream, which must start with http. |
| Icon | A link to a .png image, for a nice logo. Optional. |
Your stations are saved in config/basiquemod_stations.json, so they survive restarts.
Tip. The stream has to be live MP3. A web page or a YouTube link won't work: look for the radio's "stream" address.
The radio noteblock
This is my favorite part: turning a music block into a real sound system for the whole base.
- Place a noteblock and power it with redstone.
- Connect its redstone circuit (dust, repeater, comparator, torch, redstone block, or another noteblock) to a Wireless Signal block set to receiver. That's the antenna.
- The noteblock starts playing, and ♪ notes of every color pop out of it at 120 beats per minute.
Every player within 16 blocks hears the same station, at exactly the same moment, with no delay. If one of them changes station from their menu, everyone switches with them. No arguing possible: whoever presses last wins.
In that area, the R key (radio) and the C key (Waypoints) work even on foot. If you move more than 16 blocks away, the sound stops and the game music comes back (unless you're on a vehicle).
